Shamrock T-Shirt

Show your festive nature this St. Patrick’s Day or just bring yourself some good luck by making and wearing this shamrock shirt.

What you’ll need:

  • T-shirt, washed and dried without fabric softener
  • Green fabric paint OR green acrylic paint and textile medium
  • Gold glitter fabric paint
  • 3-D neon green fabric paint
  • Cutting board or cookie sheet
  • Wax paper
  • Heart-shaped foam stamp

How to make it:

  1. If using acrylic paint, mix with textile medium according to directions on the back of the textile medium bottle.
  2. Place cutting board inside the t-shirt and then place a piece of wax paper between the cutting board and shirt. (Click for photo.)
  3. Position the cutting board where you want it.
  4. Tuck the sleeves, sides and bottom of the shirt underneath the cutting board. (Click for photo.)
  5. Paint the heart foam stamp with a generous amount of green paint.
  6. Press the painted heart stamp onto the shirt, and then carefully lift away. (Click for photo)
  7. Create shamrocks positioning three or four hearts together; they should meet at the heart points. Draw a stem to complete the shamrock.
  8. When you are finished adding shamrocks to your shirt, allow the green paint to dry for about half an hour.
  9. Use gold glitter fabric paint to add a gold glow around the shamrocks, spread with a paintbrush or your finger. (Click for photo.)
  10. Pipe 3-D fabric paint around the border of the shamrocks. (Click for photo.)
  11. Carefully lift the entire cutting board and shirt and move it to a quiet spot where it will remain undisturbed so it can dry overnight (or at least 6 hours).

Tips:

  • In craft supply stores, fabric paint is usually in a separate section from the regular craft paint. Look for a section specifically geared at painted and embellished clothing.
  • If you like, add “Kiss Me I’m Irish” or another fun phrase to your shirt.
  • Textile medium is available in your local craft store, usually by the craft paint.
Don’t forget to order your t-shirts or tanks for this great craft idea at Rock Bottom T-Shirts, where select tanks are on sale at 15% off!

Go "GREEN"

Turning an old T-shirt into a reusable shopping or grocery bag is a simple, clever craft to help everyone go “green.” It’s a Good Thing that will help protect the environment.

Tools and Materials:
Heavy-weight cotton T-shirt
Pins
Sewing machine
Medium-size bowl
Water-erasable marking pen
Scissors

T-Shirt Bag How-To:
1. Turn T-shirt inside out and pin bottom of the T-shirt along the hem. Using a sewing machine, sew bottom of T-shirt closed. Flip shirt right side out and lay flat on table, making sure all seams are lined up.
2. Place medium-size bowl about half-way over the neck hole. Using a water-erasable marking pen, trace along the edge of the bowl. Cut along the outline, making sure to go through the front and back sides of the shirt, in order to create an opening for the bag that’s larger than what the neck hole allows.
3. Line up the hems on the front and back side of the sleeve and cut, making sure to go through both sides of the shirt. Repeat on the other sleeve. Tip: A jersey shirt would also work well for this craft, as it is already sleeveless, and it’s made of a great mesh material.

Water-erasable marking pens can be purchased at most fabric stores for about $5.

Budget Your Budget

In this economy, or any economy for that matter, all the smart people have budgets. It is easy to have one. You can write it down, have it on your computer, even keep it in your head. The trick is to stick to it.
Isn’t that the hardest part? I’d much rather buy than save. Buying is so much more fulfilling! Saving can be fulfilling too. Do you have a special treat in mind for yourself? A new computer or family vacation perhaps. When we save for those large purchases it helps keep our vision of money clear.
Sometimes though, our budget needs a budget. Huh? Track your budget each day to catch overspending. It can be as easy as the simple act of writing down every single purchase in a journal. Alice Wood, has developed a budget system that fits all income levels.
She says “It’s hard to keep track of how we spend because spending is so easy, with all the different ways to pay like auto pay, PayPal, credit cards, debit cards, checks, how do you know what you’re spending?
When you don’t track, it’s easy to fudge. Many people are unconscious of their spending until they’re forced to write it down. Suddenly, the reality of the $5 lunch or late-afternoon snack run becomes clear.
$5 a day in snacks or in the vending machine (say you only spend it at work) becomes $1300 a year! If you put that $5 a day in a piggy bank…that’s a pretty nice shopping trip!
Now even when you’re on a budget, you still have to spend money. Everyone needs new clothes. But can you buy quality clothes on a budget? Absolutely. If you are a follower, you know that RockBottomT-Shirts.com has tons of clothes for everyone in the family, all under $10! Where else can you get golf shirts for $6, Ladies Warm Ups for $10 a piece as well as top quality juniors, girls and kids clothes all under $10? Oh and did I mention free shipping on sales over $35?
So make this the year of the budget, and save money while still buying!
