Get Crafty with Your Sewing Machine

Sewing machines make embellishment fun & easy

We’ve done several pieces on no-sew crafts, but thought it was time to take it up a notch with a few embellishments that require the use of a sewing machine. The good thing is, even though you’ll have to use a piece of machinery, these are still easy enough to get done in an afternoon. These pieces will definitely turn heads and get jealous “oohs and ahhs” from your friends.

The wonderful thing about embellishing is that you can use these techniques on any type of clothing, not just t-shirts. As you look at the ideas below, remember that your imagination is your only limit! (Here are the ideas and supply lists, click on the title for complete directions)

Make a Reverse Applique:

Make It Pink!

Embellish A Plain Tee With A Few Stitches and Buttons (Ok, we threw in a no-sew for the non-savvy sewers)

  • Item of clothing that could use something extra (T-shirts, skirts, dresses, and sweaters are all great candidates for this project)
  • Scissors
  • Embroidery floss (Choose your favorite colors!)
  • Buttons
  • Needle
  • Embroidery hoop
  • Stabilizer (optional, but super-handy)

We hope that you enjoyed these great ideas. Remember, embellishment is not bound by convention. So go ahead…Embellish everything!
