Saving Money in an Offbeat Way

By now we’ve covered a number of conventional ways to save money.  However, if you’re like me you’ve probably already tried those and are now ready to try a few less common money saving tips.  So today we’re going to look at 5 offbeat ways to save money.

  1. Purchase Infant Clothing Out of Season
  2. Similar to adult clothing, you can reap substantial savings by purchasing your baby’s clothes out of season.  For example, instead of purchasing summer clothes in the summer try purchasing them in the winter and vice versa.  Sometimes this tip alone can net you as much as 60% in savings.  If you’re going to take this route just remember to purchase one to two sizes larger than what your baby wears now. How to Turn a T-Shirt into a Ruffle Dress

Kojo Designs Ruffle Dress

Kojo Designs Ruffle Dress

Always on the lookout for great t-shirt craft projects, we came across a number of tutorials on re-styling adult t-shirts into ruffle dresses for babies and toddlers.

One that seemed to stand out was a post from Kojo Designs.  While many of the dress craft tutorials we found involved eighteen steps or more, the dress we found on Kojo Designs only used nine steps!  It should be noted, though, that this project is a little more difficult than most we post on Rock Bottom T-Shirts.  The steps are at an intermediate skill level and a healthy dose of patience may be required to finish the project. Pantone: 2011 Fall Color Preview

Pantone has released their 2011 Fall Color Trend Report.  It is worth noting that New York Fashion Week has just ended, so against that backdrop, we are publishing our summary of the Pantone 2011 Fall Report.

Pantone Color Swatches

Four Key Colors for Pantone's 2011 Fall Color Report

Based upon what I’ve seen so far, New York Fashion Week 2011 tells us to expect this fall’s fashion season to be filled with striking color contrasts in conjunction with richly textured materials.

Likewise, the 2011 Fall Pantone report indicates that this fall season we should expect to see designers using stark color contrasts along with a mixture of both classical and modern fashion styles to invoke images of Chinese opera, old Hollywood, and cityscapes.

My take after reading both the 2011 Fall Pantone Color Report as well as the Fashion Week reviews is that the theme of 2011’s fall season could best be described as a marriage between old ball room color and modern fashion.  Indeed there is a certain air of romance to be found in this year’s fall fashions.
