Yes, there is another holiday (or just a plain ‘ole fun day) you can also celebrate on February 14. National Ferris Wheel Day.
The purpose of this day is to celebrate the birthday of Mr. George Washington Gale Ferris, the inventor of the Ferris Wheel. Of course its also meant to be a day for you to enjoy his invention. The only problem, however, is that there aren’t many carnivals, amusement parks or fairgrounds operating in mid-February in the US. So if you want to celebrate Ferris Wheel Day you may have to settle for enjoying fair or amusement park photos and if you’re feeling a bit creative you can even create your own ferris wheel.
With inspiration from a really neat blogger named Lindsey we thought it would be fun to make a Ferris wheel t-shirt. This craft project was done with just a few items, most of which you probably already have in your house.
You Most Likely Have These Supplies
- Plastic Grocery Bag
- Permanent Marker
Things You May Not Already Have
- Parchment Paper
- Girls Vintage Longer Length T
The first thing you’ll need todo is cut out a circle from the grocery bag. Pick a t-shirt that will contrast nicely with the grocery bag. Set your iron to high and turn the steam setting off. Place the circle on the t-shirt and cover with the parchment paper. Press hard on the plastic to get it to bond with the fabric.
Now you can gently peel back the parchment paper and check the circle. If it is peeling at the edges, replace the parchment paper and press again. Once this is done, all that’s left for you to do is decorate! We used a simple permanent marker to draw the spokes, seats and frame. You could make it even fancier with additional fabric paints, glitter or rhinestones.
Note: We’ve found that using a vintage color t-shirt for this craft project really brings out the color of your plastic design and we
offer several vintage t-shirts (including the Girls Vintage Longer Length T) that would work well with this project. We loved this craft because it can be used in so many different ways. It would make a great party project, and could be tailored to fit any festivity.
We hope that you get a chance to try your hand at this quick and easy craft. And if you do get the chance to do this craft don’t forget to send us pictures of your projects-we’ll be happy to post them to our Facebook Fanpage!
