How to Turn a T-Shirt into a Ruffle Dress

Always on the lookout for great t-shirt craft projects, we came across a number of tutorials on re-styling adult t-shirts into ruffle dresses for babies and toddlers.

One that seemed to stand out was a post from Kojo Designs.  While many of the dress craft tutorials we found involved eighteen steps or more, the dress we found on Kojo Designs only used nine steps!  It should be noted, though, that this project is a little more difficult than most we post on Rock Bottom T-Shirts.  The steps are at an intermediate skill level and a healthy dose of patience may be required to finish the project.

Here’s an excerpt from Kojo Designs that reveals the inspiration behind Jordan and Kirstin’s blog piece:

“When a friend gave me a bag of Goodwill-bound t-shirts last week, I took it as and [sic] a chance to sew some ruffle-y goodness for my niece’s upcoming birthday.   And actually, repurposing a yellow t-shirt from the bag of goodies into a Sayla Grace-worthy dress/belt/barrette pile of ruffles was actually pretty easy.”

Ready to try this project?  Rock Bottom T-Shirts offers a number of Women’s styles that would be perfect options for creating your toddler’s dream ruffle dress.  And at our prices, you can afford to try it on a few garments before getting it right!  Or use one of your old favorite shirts at home and replace it with a fashionable Rock Bottom T-Shirt!  Make sure to share photos of your masterpiece with us on our Facebook page.

Not quite ready to try this project? Rock Bottom T-Shirts offers two ruffle dresses at fabulous prices -the Baby Romper Ruffle Dress and the Toddler Ruffle Dress.

  1. Thanks for featuring our project! I’ll let you in on a little secret- I’ve spent the last week streamlining the JCrew-y ruffle dress (still trying to whittle my pile of t-shirts). Next week we’re doing a whole series on De-Stashing!
    Stop on by! 🙂
    And thanks again! 🙂

  2. What a nice article. As well as the Kojo Designs Ruffle Dress, in yellow color. So cute. Thanks for sharing your blogs 🙂

  3. Thank you so much for acknowledging. More power! 🙂
