Selecting the Best Colors for Your Wardrobe

As a business professional it always helps to put your best foot forward.  This includes dressing for success as much as it includes doing great work.  Much of your overall presentation has to do with your wardrobe selections.  A great way to manage your wardrobe is to plan it around specific color combinations.   That’s what we’ll be discussing in the rest of this post.

Here are some great tips on how to get the most from your color combinations and dress for success:

The first thing that you should do is avoid carelessly combining the colors that you find inside your closet. Looking stylish can take a bit of planning and preparation.

Fashion Magazines

Picking up a fashion magazine and looking at what the professional models are wearing can be a great source of inspiration to help you develop your own color combinations.  It’s really simple, all you have to do is take note of the color combinations that you see and like the most and then you simply apply them to your wardrobe.

Another benefit of using fashion magazines to help narrow down your color combinations is that you can find images of models undertones that resemble yours and pay attention to the colors that they’re wearing.  This comes in handy because there are some hues and palettes that just won’t work with your coloring.

Making Use of Color Wheels:

Another tool that you can use to help you make the best use of color combinations is a color wheel.  You can find color wheels in stores that sell paint and/or art.  But if you want to find one really quickly just do a search for the term “color wheel” on your favorite search engine.  Once you have the color wheel in front of you the rest of this post will make a lot more sense.

Analogous Colors

You can build a wardrobe around colors that are right next to each other on the color wheel. These are called analogous colors. Analogous colors help to create harmony because there is so much similarity between the colors.  Red and orange are examples of analogous colors.

Monochromatic Colors

Monochromatic colors are colors that appear on the color wheel in vertical lines as shades of one another.  To see these you need to find a color wheel that has lots of detail.  An example would be red and brown or black and gray.   These types of colors go well together and they look good with any color.

Complimentary Colors

Another option is to go with complementary colors. Complementary colors are those that appear opposite of each other on the color wheel.  The role that complementary colors play in fashion is that they help to highlight or call attention to each other.  An example of a complimentary combination would be blue and orange.

In addition to paying attention to the color wheel and fashion magazines to find the right color combinations, you should also be aware of the differences between warm and cool colors.  Don’t forget Rock Bottom T-Shirts offers casual clothing wear, for the entire family, in a wide range of colors.
