As we near the end of summer it’s a great time to start preparing for the cooler weather. This is especially true if you’re the parent of an infant. As you may already know, babies do not have the ability to regulate their body temperatures in the same way that adults do. So when the weather cools keeping your baby warm is a great way to keep your baby healthy. Here are four ways that you can do that.
1. Layers. Dressing your infant in layers is an excellent way to keep her warm. Remember that just as babies can get cool easily their bodies can also overheat. This is why it’s good to dress your infant in light layers that are easy to get on and off.
2. Hat. Most studies indicate that approximately 40% of your body heat escapes through your head. As a result, it’s important that your baby wears a hat when she goes out. Additionally, mittens and socks do a great job at helping to keep your little one’s extremities warm.
3. Travel. In addition to dressing your child for cool weather outside there are other precautions that you can take to ensure that your baby stays warm during travel. The first thing that you can do is warm your car up before you put your baby in the car. Another thing that you can do when you’re heading out with your baby, is to cover her car seat with a car seat cover. If you can find one that has an elastic edge and a face opening, those tend to work really well.
4. Skin Moisturizer. Baby skin is much more sensitive than adult skin, which is why in the winter your baby’s skin tends to get dry much quicker than yours. So in the cooler months, more than ever, it’s important that you keep your baby’s skin moisturized. Applying a gentle moisturizer to your baby’s skin that’s made just for babies is a good way to do this.
We’ve just covered four ways to keep your baby warm when it’s cool outside. Doing these things should go a long way in keeping your baby comfortable.
