Minimalist DIning

Saving money means a different things to different people, but one area where most of us spend more money than we realize is on our food.  Minimalist dining is doing what you can to save money on your meals without having to eat Ramen Noodles every night.

Not only can this method of eating save you money, but in many cases it can help you lose weight and get yourself back in shape.  Here are four things to keep in mind when you’re dining like a minimalist.

1. Say No – Sometimes it’s just better to say no.  When you’re saving money, the key is to skip out on a snack or treat if you’re not hungry.  Just because you always buy a dessert with dinner doesn’t mean you have to.  If you’re not hungry, don’t eat.  It’s that simple.

2. Follow your Stomach – Minimalist dining revolves around listening to your body.  If you’re hungry, eat.  When you’re full, stop.  You don’t have to starve yourself, but the old habit of eating until you’re beyond full is one of the first habits that you should break.

Enjoy Your Food

3. Enjoy your Food – In the hustle and bustle of daily living it’s easy to forget that food should be enjoyed.  However, minimalist dining means that instead of rushing to get your fill of food, you actually take the time to savor each bite.

This has two benefits.  First, since you’re eating slower your brain will actually get the ‘I’m full’ signal before it normally would.  Second, even though you’re eating less, you’re enjoying it more by taking the time to appreciate each bite of your meal.

4. Adjust– Interestingly, it doesn’t take long for your body and mind to adjust to a minimalist dining mindset after just a few short weeks.  By eating less but still eating when you’re hungry, your body will feel better in the long run.

Minimalist Dining Options

Again, saving money on food doesn’t mean starving yourself or eating plain toast every day.  There are plenty of inexpensive but tasty meal ideas online that can fit into a minimalist dining plan.  Take a look at your meal options and you may be surprised.
