Crafters take note – Less than 150 days until Christmas!

Crafters take note! With less than 150 days until Christmas, now is the time to be considering what purchases you will be making for the upcoming holiday season. This Christmas season will be the first for our Easy Collection. The Easy Collection consists of high quality fabrics and colors that are available in different styles for the entire family.

It’s also time to consider warmer clothes as fall and winter will be here before you know it. We have Long Sleeves and Hoodies available for Babies, Toddlers, Juniors, Men, and Women.

Many of our customers use our garments to make special presents for the holiday season, we suggest the following to make sure you have plenty of time to complete your projects:

Target A Finish Date of December 1st – Remember while Christmas doesn’t arrive until Dec.25, most families meet on the weekends prior to Christmas. Also if you are mailing something to a loved one, you want to make sure it gets there in plenty of time.

Order your garments as soon as possible – This makes sure they fit and arrive undamaged. This allows us plenty of times to take care of any mistakes that occur due to shipping or due to our warehouse. It also makes sure that the styles and colors of your choice are in stock.

Order all of your garments at once – Instead of doing a few small orders, do a large one to take advantage of free shipping on $50 orders.

Also don’t forget to post pictures of your creations on our Facebook page!

Fun Friday: Two words that make everything in the world louder

By Brian Darby

Our 20% off our Top 20 Styles Sale ends this Sunday!

I am convinced that the quietest person in the world will become louder, the quietest appliance you have will get louder and, in fact, anything on the planet will become instantly 10 times louder with 2 simple words:

Sleeping baby

I’m seriously considering asking the Mythbusters test this. If a baby is asleep, especially a baby that wakes up fussy, every floor board between you and her bed will creak. Birds will start chirping, even if it’s in the dead of winter. Haven’t had a cold since 1994? You’ll suddenly need to sneeze. Need to get something out of the kitchen? The chair will creak, your knees will pop, the pan you need will be on the bottom, and the ice maker at that moment will drop a few fresh cubes into the bin.

I’m convinced that theater sound systems really aren’t that special. They just have a nursery full of sleeping babies in the projector room.

Have you ever noticed the Sleeping Baby Volume Phenomenon?

Holiday Shopping on a Budget

Our Top 20 Styles are currently 20% off. Also, free economy shipping to the Continental United States with a $50.00 order.

The countdown to Christmas is on and with that comes the annual Holiday Shopping Season. Below are some tips that allow you to shop responsibly for this year:

  • Before starting your shopping, set a budget and stick to it! Determine how much you are going to spend and write it down on paper.
  • Make a list of everyone you would like to give a gift, don’t forget Christmas parties at work, and folks you see or do business with regularly.
  • Determine how much you are going to spend on each person before you start. This will make sure that you do not over spend.
  • Don’t forget about gifts of service. Does your pastor and spouse have kids? Tell him that for Christmas you’d like to babysit them so that he and his wife can have a night together.
  • Don’t forget gifts you can make. If you decided to make some gifts, determine which people will be getting those gifts and when you will be seeing them. If your office party is at the beginning of December, start scheduling when you are going to bake, create, or design now. Remember, most of us are very busy the week of Thanksgiving, so that week may be very unproductive.
  • Do not buy yourself a gift. I’m guilty of it, and so is 70% of Americans. If you want something for yourself, wait until after the holidays.
  • Do not “religiousize” your gift giving. Many of us sometimes get caught up in the mistaken belief that excess gift giving will bring us more in tune with the faith we are living. However, most faiths preach discipline, and ensuring your own financial security instead of overspending.
  • Don’t forget about handwritten thank you notes to those that you just can’t work into your budget.
  • If ordering online, pay attention to limits to obtain Free Shipping. (At Rock Bottom T-Shirts, we offer Free Economy Shipping to the Continental United States with a $50 order)

We encourage you to stay tuned to our Facebook page for special deals and offers between now and Christmas.

Fun Friday: An American Tradition, the Hand Turkey

By Brian Darby

Our Top 20 Styles are now 20% off! Sale ends 11/18/2012. Also free economy shipping to the Continential US on orders over $50!

As the calendar rolls over and we transition from Halloween (and attempt to recuperate from the overeating of candy), we start to look ahead to our next holiday extravaganza, Thanksgiving. For the next three weeks we will begin to make travel plans, prepare ourselves once again to overeat, decide which set of family and in-laws to see, and which to avoid (don’t judge me).

The American tradition of Thanksgiving centers on food: turkey, stuffing, dressing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, gravy, and pumpkin pie. I need a food nap just thinking about it. But there is one tradition that happens each year that simply amazes me: the hand turkey.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, there’s a good chance you didn’t attend Ball Ground Elementary School. The hand turkey is a way to teach kids how to draw a turkey. By having a child trace their hand, you get what is supposed to be a turkey that you can color with crayons.

Because this  looks like this  .

The origin of this tradition is unknown – which means I browsed Wikipedia and found nothing.

I’m not sure how a hand turkey would fly, or if it would be suitable to eat on Thanksgiving. I don’t know if we were bird watching for hand turkeys if different color feathers would be a sign of rarity or distress. Legend has it, that Ben Franklin wasn’t thrilled about the choice of the American Bald Eagle for our National Bird, and that he preferred the Wild Turkey.

Somehow, I’m pretty sure this wasn’t what he had in mind:

What is your favorite “non-traditional” Thanksgiving tradition?

Fun Friday: The Myth of the Extra Hour of Sleep

By: Brian Darby

You can view all of our Rock Bottom T-Shirts Autumn Favorites here

“And remember folks to set your clock back an hour before bed tonight” – some TV weatherman will say somewhere.

And thousands of us will think “Hey, I get an extra hour of sleep tonight.”  And we are wrong.

I’m not a fan of the switch back to Standard Time after being on Daylight Saving Time. I already get a little cranky and tired as the daylight gets shorter and having that process start even earlier just makes me sleepy thinking about it. The only good thing is when I get up in the morning, the sun will be getting up with me. Instead of getting up in the dark and waiting on the sun.

But I always look at the calendar and think, “Hey, at least I get an extra hour of sleep.” And then I don’t.

Why? Because I’ll blow it. I won’t just stay up an extra hour. I’ll stay up an extra two hours. Yes, I will not only spend the hour that I have been given. I’ll spend that hour PLUS an hour I don’t have. I will finish the day -1 hour.

It’s like someone getting a $300/month raise, and buying a car with a $400/month car payment.

But I guess I shouldn’t complain too much…it would just be a waste of time.

Are you a fan of going back to Standard Time?
